PhD Lifehacks
Everything you always wanted to know as a PhD-student to make your doctorate easier is compiled here!
Longer loan periods at the University Library
PhD-students can apply for the so-called semester loan at the University Library (UL). With semester loans, books are automatically renewed up to five times.
- Please send an email with your name, matriculation number and UL number to info@ub.uni-freiburg.de with the request to activate the lecturer loan/semester loan for PhD-students.
- The head of the lending service (Regina Flamm) will send an information sheet on semester loan if approval is granted.
Institute email address (incl. external employee account)
- PhD-students who do not have a contract with the University can apply for a Uniaccount as an external employee via the following link: https://www.rz.uni-freiburg.de/inhalt/dokumente/pdfs/formulare/erstantrag/view
- The application must be completed with the secretariat of the respective institute. The secretariat will then send the application.
- Once the application has been approved, the secretary's office will receive a letter from the computer center containing the new user ID (initials and four digits) and an initial password.
- You can now log in to myAccount (https://myaccount.uni-freiburg.de/uadmin/login) using the user ID and the initial password.
- Next, a new password must be created. The external employee account is then set up.
- After logging in to myAccount, a university mail account with the institute domain can be created under the tab "Mail- and list administration / Mail accounts".
- If you want to have access to the intranet an informal e-mail can be sent to intranet-tickets@mail.uni-freiburg.de briefly explaining why and for how long access is required.
Workspaces for PhD-students
-
If you are not provided with a workspace by the institute and cannot work well at home, you have the opportunity to apply for a workspace in the premises of the Graduate School of Humanities (Erbprinzenstr. 13) on a semester-by-semester basis. You can find more information here: https://uni-freiburg.de/humanities/konzentriert-arbeiten/ or by contacting the coordinator Lisa Blitz (lisa.blitz@humanities.uni-freiburg.de ).
-
Alternatively, the GAA also regularly advertises vacant workspaces, which are located in the DocLounge (Erbprinzenstr. 12). Information on deadlines and criteria for application can be found here: https://www.gemeinsamer-ausschuss-der-doktorandenkonvente.uni-freiburg.de/en/news/doclounge-workspace?set_language=en
